*okbye* *Dodges bullets*

I was meant to post this yesterday, but the internet service was so slow last night, it had me close to tears. Plus I was trying to respond to all the facebook messages I got; I always feel, if someone takes out time to drop me a line, least I can do is respond. It wasn't easy at all though! But I think I read every single message and responded, especially for those that composed epistles! Thanks a lot people!

Let's pretend it's Friday then, can we? *winks* TGIF. I got the inspiration for my #90smusic song choice today from the movie "The internship". It was the song Vince Vaughn played in the car before they got the shocker that their company was closing down, Owen hated the song and wanted him to put it off, hehe!

I like the song though, to pieces (I like many 90s songs to pieces actually, especially the ones with guitars in the background). Alanis got a lot of criticism on her understanding of the word "ironic" because of this song! See yabs left right and center. Some people even got together to re-write the lyrics of the song to make it truly ironic;

They have a point though, because come to think about it, what is ironic about rain on your wedding day? Or good advice that you can't take? *scratches head*. However, I feel she got the concept of "Irony" with some of the examples. To help analyse this, I looked up the definition of "Irony" and found this;

*Culled from http://dictionary.reference.com/

i·ro·ny [ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-]

noun, plural i·ro·nies.

1.  the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

2. Literature.

a. a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.

b. (especially in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., especially as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.

3. Socratic irony.

4. dramatic irony.

5. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.

Going by the fifth point, I don't think she did too badly. Listen and let me know what you think. Which ones are actually ironic or not?

It must be tough to be in the limelight, the media can be brutal at times. It is even worse these days with social media! Everything you say or do will be dissected and analysed by everybody and anybody. E no concain me sha, I loved the song and still love it, even learned the lyrics back to back.

Enjoy..

Ironic - Alanis Morissette

Follow this link for the video if you can't view the one above

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic...don't you think
A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out
