Okay!! So today our Friday jam is our Friday jam just because!!!
Yeah!!!! I always thought this guy was the evolution of Nigerian music!!
I remember the first day I heard the song! I was like "oh waowu" (Yoruba word for Wow). I had it on repeat for days!! I wonder whatever happened to him! The singer that is! Please if anyone out there knows him; kindly help me tell him he will always have a fan in me! And I forgive him for disappearing into thin air. I guess he finally found those wings to fly away like he stated clearly in the song you are about to enjoy!
So yes!! On to the song! I honestly don't have any friends called Angelica
Shout out to all limited edition Angelica's out there!! This a song y'all would be happy to hear!! I can continue hyping the song but I won't. Listen to it yourself and appreciate good music!!
I wake up not knowing what to do today
But i wake up with a knowing....
I'm made for greatness!
There's so much I have bottled up..
Shhhhh.....
I see life through so many different eyes.....
It's hard to maintain eye contact..
Its a constant struggle within me
Hell! There's a war within me
I'm trying to seperate these thoughts, things I see..
Give them form...
Shoot! It's harder than I thought!
I don't know which to let out first..
Maybe I'll just let it out anyhow
Form or no form
And hope it makes sense!!
Or maybe I'll just carry on with life as it is
Keeping all I see through these different eyes, to myself
For fear of things, I comprehend not......
This is how 'read all about it' by Emeli sande makes me feel! It's an awesome, 'fabtastic' song. It's a song that speaks to your soul!! It speaks volumes of truth!!! All of you out there that have it in your power to save a certain person or situation but fear won't let you be!! Listen to this song and speak out!! Hehehehe. True though! *seriousface*
The rhythm and the lyrics of this song!! Gosh!! Over fabulous!!
If you haven't seen these hungarian dancers shadow the song for Britain's got talent. You need to see it. It will make you feel the song even more. - click here
I cry everytime I watch this performance. It's just absolutely amazing.
EMELI SANDE
Read All About It (Culled from Metrolyrics)
You've got the words to change a Nation (I hope you hear that!)
but you're biting your tongue (why? what are you afraid of?)
You've spent a life time stuck in silence
afraid that you'll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song
So come on, come on
Come on, come on
You've got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed
Maybe we're a little different
there's no need to be ashamed
You've got the light to fight the shadows
so stop hiding it away
Come on, Come on
I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till
the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
I'm not afraid
they can read all about it,
read all about it, it oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-ooooh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-ooooh
At night we're waking up the neighbours
while we sing away the blues
making sure that we're remembered
cause we all matter too
if the truth has been forbidden
then we're breaking all the rules
So come on, come on
Come on, come on,
Lets get the TV and the radio
to play our tune again
its 'bout time we got some airplay of our version of events
It's funny how time flies; from once upon a time, don't talk to boys; To now, 'so who are you seeing'?
It's funny how times have changed; from once upon a time, guys chase after girls To now, girls chase after guys
It's funny how the loves songs we grew up to know, were about guys begging girls not to leave them; promising not to break hearts; guys pledging loyalty To now, guys bragging about how they can't date an "ugly girl" (I mean!! What is ugly? *kmt*)......YQ
How they are only gonna break hearts....Taio cruz Yes I have my sources Singing about how a girl can hit it big if she has a baby by them.....50cents Or simply asking what girls want from them! Hian!! C'mon!! We used to call the shots na!!
Remember; "I don't want no shy guy"...."I don't want no scrub" et al? Jeez!! Now you hear ladies singing songs like "Please don't leave me" "Tryna sleep with a broken heart" etc The last straw for me was listening to the song about ladies meeting guys halfway!!! -black eyed peas Adonbulivit!!!! Whatever happened to the good old love songs "I'm down on bended knees" "I'm going crazy" The list goes on
Anyhoo, enough ranting. Our jam for the day is a beautiful beautiful song about +Jesse McCartney beautiful soul Sombori!! Hehe. Where's he by the way. (Jessie that is)
This song does it for me for more reasons than one. As always, the rhythm on point, and then the lyrics are beautiful. Simple, no lustful innuendos, just him professing love In the plainest, purest and 'beautifulest' way ever!!!
It's on days like this when I wake up and I just find that I'm angry and cranky for reasons unknown to me;
I'm just in that very low place and can't place my hands on what sent me there
Those days when I'm just pissed at everything and I just want to scream and not pray
Cos I can't find the right words to say!
No I don't want to cry
No I don't want to ask God why
No, I don't want to be there! But hey! I am!
No I don't want be askd why I'm
In this low place
Cos I don't have the answers
No I'm not depressed
I'm just distressed
The anxiety kind of distress....I guess!
Aaa argh!
It's on these days I remember songs about persistence
Songs that are not only rhythm worthy
But also lyrics worthy
And so for days like this
I turn on my music device and sing out loud along with +Nosa Omoregie on his
'I go stay' track!!
No I might not feel immediately better (or maybe I might)
But I'll enjoy the moment of singing out loud because it's an awesome song with awesome lyrics that make so much sense and will eventually
Make me less
Distressed; somehow......!!
The power of amazing songs!
That said! Find lyrics below and enjoy this awesome song!
In this 'evolutionary' age where things aren't as they used to be and men out there no longer deem it necessary to 'woo' a lady. (Olurotimi, I can't believe you just said woo! hahahaha)
Men have now made themselves champs feeling like limited editions!! (If I hear!)
These times where almost everything you hear in indigenous lyrics is about sensuality!
I have come to appreciate our ancient (maybe not so ancient) indigenous musicians who expressed how much they needed women to make their lives complete! You could hear the desperation in their lyrics! Hehe!
This brings me to our Friday jam!! *drumrolls*
Ifeoma by Felix liberty.......
This song just makes me happy! One because I remember the dance moves in the video, two, because the rhythm I love and three, the lyrics! I find the lyrics hilarious! All 11 lines! LOL! Felix Liberty ain't playing games yo!!!
Please Enjoy!!

So Finally, I managed to drag the not so little miss Olurotimi into my team. She loves music and writes well, jez like me yea! Hehe.Only, I must warn you, she's quite a melancholy type person, most of her song choices will make you sober. She has her happy go-lucky days too, we thank God for small mercies. lol.
I don't know what is doing the geh! Anyway, she's on board now for #musicfriday! Join me in welcoming her on board and I absolutely love her pick for this friday too!! Don't let bitterness drown you.
Enjoy......
More often than not, I listen to songs for their rhythm
And not their lyrics, I kid u not!!
However, it just so happens that when I find myself in certain situations
Or see some things happening around me,
Several songs relating to these situations or circumstances come to mind
But hey! Maybe I'm a genius
Or does anyone else out there possess similar super powers?!!
I didn't think so!
Anyway, there have been so many deaths already in this new year
And it's got me thinking about life in general
I revisited the thoughts of how uncool it is that some of us are grudge experts
I'm not talking about the "I'm mad at you! I'm not even gonna talk to u now" kind of grudges;
I'm talking about the mean spirited, evil (Yes evil) kind.
The "I'm not even gonna talk to you" for like a month or two or a year!!! Nooo way!!!
Life is short pple! Change your ways!
Back to business! So this whole mood got me thinking "how to save a life" by the fray! The song expresses the struggles of trying to reach out to a troubled person.
Yes, everybody is fighting a battle but there's always the stronger person! Use your strength! Encourage or at least say a prayer for someone today!
And to that person about to drown in the battles of life; hold on! Help is on the way.
Step one, you say, "We need to talk."
He walks, you say, "Sit down. It's just a talk."
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Let him know that you know best
'Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defence
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
Pray to God, he hears you
And I pray to God, he hears you
And where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
I didn't post this yesterday because there has been a mini war in my head as to which song to post for this week. I struggled between Simi's "you be tiff", +MI Abaga's "brother" and a couple of others, but as I was going through the #funny_african_pics page on instagram this morning, it hit me!
For many years, those of us with the name "Sade" pronounced "Shade" have been subjected to many miserable songs with our names. At some point I used to think, haba, is there no other yoruba name that can fit into these their songs ni?! Kilode. Then to make it worse, you will hear the songs and want to just cry. Lol.
It is so bad that one of +Itsmrlawson's parodies had to drag Sade into it! Oh why...
Remember Remedies and their J'eka ma fe r'awa one? After combing the whole of the internet (kind'a), I found the audio here. There were so many others, but I can't seem to remember nor find them.... Help me out here. Those "Sade" songs that made us hang our heads. We have suffered!
Anyways, this is why I have to celebrate +Adekunle Gold! Ho gat gat gat. I am so loving his cover of +One Direction's Story of my life. It's a "Sade" song that I am so totally proud of. I might be alone on this one, but I don't even care. Thank you Kunle!
I looked for the lyrics everywhere and found it on this cool site - Kofolyrics.com, that has all the lyrics to loads of great Nigerian songs. Add them up on their bbm channel [C0044FF66]
I made a small attempt to translate some of the yoruba in it, for the benefit of those who don't understand. It's quite tricky doing a direct translation from yoruba to English though! Whew. Lol. No wonder those yoruba home video translations are such a disaster, not like that is an excuse anyway.
Enjoy......
(anybody know a karaoke place where they do Nigerian songs? I feel ready to visit one soon. hehe)

In a few days it'll be December! I can't even believe it. It has been quite an eventful year so far and I just want to take a minute to say thank you God for life and living! Haven't posted friday music on here in a while, there are so many songs I want to share and I'll get round to them, eventually, hehe!!
Meanwhile have you gone out to get +MI Abaga 's new album!! Whaaat! The chairman vex scatter on this one, no playing at all. He made too much sense on the tracks with +TUFACE IDIBIA and +soundsultan - #mesefibehuman being o! Oh lawd! Don't even get me started with #rich, I think it was Nosa on the vocals there non? I needed that song like yesterday! lol. Will do justice to these songs another day. Today we share the #benediction song by August Alsina. First time I heard the song, I just connected with it. Maybe it was in the way he sang, like he was totally feeling all those emotions. I just couldn't help but stop and listen. You just know when someone is singing from deep down his heart! Here's to #musicfriday with August Alsina;
Enjoy.....

Started off in the streets
We would take collection from the fiends
People dyin' all around me
So I gave you my testimony
We were down from the beginnin'
When the world wasn't listenin'
Now that I got your attention
Let us end with the benediction
We are gathered here today
Paying our respects to bein' broke, hope he's in a better place (Yes ke!! I gotta get here)
Cause life out here ain't sweet, oh no
I would close my eyes to sleep but didn't dream no more
So I had to make a way for my home, you know
Now I'm in a place where I ain't gotta scheme no more
The good life, done with the hood life
I did what I could didn't always do what I should and I was misunderstood
So many nights I tried
To hide how I felt, I would cry inside
And I ran through the streets till my feet got tired
Cause I ain't wanna have my shoes on them power lines
But I made it, and it made me (Yezzir, we will make it)
I know I did wrong, I pray to God he forgave me
Cause I made it, and it didn't kill me
So it made me stronger, I pray to God that you feel me, that you feel me...
Our father who art in heaven
I pray you free me from my demons and keep me level (very important and I say amen to that)
I know you kept me out of prison where I was headin'
When I heard somebody killed my brother, one-eighty-seven
I hope he made it to your presence, for me he was a blessin'
At least I know he's restin' and he ain't out here stressin'
Tryna get to the good life, and out of this hood life
I pray that my step-pops stay off of that crack pipe
So Mama could sleep nights, I know it's been hard on her
I was ripping through the streets, it was hard for her
Now I'm up in hotels on the ocean shore
When I was sleepin' on the floor at the corner store
But I made it, and it made me
I know I did wrong, I pray to God he would save me
Cause I made it, it didn't kill me
So it made me stronger, I pray to God that you feel me, do you feel me... (Do you?)
Bottle after bottle, snatching Belaire out the bucket
Rightin' all my wrongs for these homies out here thuggin'
Pray for benediction, pretty women on my premise
Condo out in Cabo, screaming "GABOS" to my nemesis
Gold around my neck I'm ballin' for these final minutes
Nothing lasts forever, for these sins I seek repentance
Shots fired, another gone, I feel that man's pain
Daddy sat me down and said: "that came with the game"
Shake my head, roll up the window, turnin' up the music
So much anger in these songs for these soldiers that we losin'
A mastermind is one who's feedin' others off his talent
I owe it to my city but it's time I pay my balance
I'm in Holyfield's estate, I started with a pallet
I made my first tape, I gave that shit to Khaled
Thankful for my supporters, everyone that ever bought us
Grateful for every lesson these Miami streets taught us
Started off in the streets
We would take collection from the fiends
People dyin' all around me
So I gave you my testimony
We were down from the beginnin'
When the world wasn't listenin'
Now that I got your attention
Let us end with the benediction

I was at my son's school yesterday and alas, his teacher is pregnant. In my mind, my first reaction was panic! Can she be effective, wouldn't she be cranky all day, snapping at the kids? Then I thought again; this is one of the issues women like me face in the work place. Just because a woman is pregnant, does that mean she cannot add value anymore? Does that mean that she must be relegated to a secondary role or relieved of her duty? I felt really silly for my initial reaction and made up my mind to be as supportive as I can as an active parent of one of her students, till she has to go on leave, so help me God.
The song for today has been in my head since last week. I heard it first in my cousin +Ayo Olajide 's car a couple of years back. Permit me to say this, it is not very common to find really well done songs in the gospel genre. Sometimes I wonder, is it the money? The fact that most believe it has to be sombre? Or the fact that secular talent hunters come to the church to entice then really gifted ones with money? What are your thoughts on this?
Oh well, you know already that I have a bias for anything with string instruments! This is another reason why I am totally sold on +Casting Crowns music. The lyrics of "Voice of Truth" written by #Mark Hall and +Steven Curtis Chapman have especially spoken to me at times when I have been at my lowest.
Don't just listen to the music, follow the lyrics and let them speak to you.....
Let's share some good music this Friday shall we.....
The rate at which new music is turned out nowadays is alarming. It's so hard to keep up. This minute you are feeling this song and before you know it another one comes and bounces it off. There are some however that just stick, they stand out because the lyrics are sound, the music composition is good and they just stand out from all the "shake your bum bum", "lie in my bed" hogwash we get bombarded with.
This song is a breath of fresh air. One of my top songs at the moment.
According to Wikipedia, The duo was asked about the meaning of the song and the inspiration behind it during an interview on Good Morning America, Nico Sereba said, "Inspiration is coming from a small country, but having huge dreams and people telling you, man, that's not realistic, come on, you can't be on the top of America or the top of the world or whatever we dream of......"
I have been MIA because I simply can't get myself into the zone. The state of the nation is a major factor in this. Everything around is so depressing. I was even discussing this challenge with my sister earlier today and she said "so blog about just that".Still it was so hard to put any thoughts down, until this evening when I saw something and I'll share in a bit, first let's let out all this gloom.
Am I the only entrepreneur who is finding is difficult to stay upbeat and motivated in Nigeria right now? I am just curious. Do we still get up gearing to go and conquer? I saw some comment on twitter earlier and I was like huh?! Some have actually been capitalizing on the #bringbackourgirls campaign for personal benefits, not subtle ones like "me too, I dey here" type benefits but blatant advertising and marketing of themselves or their business. Someone tweeted a link with a catchy heading relating to the campaign only for people to follow the link and find it was just a link to a sales website! Na wa o! So I am guessing maybe, not many of us are really downcast by the mood in the air. It's still business as usual. Oma se oo.
I also noticed a struggle for recognition of the creator of the hashtag #bringbackourgirls on twitter and couldn't believe it! Does it really matter who created it? It's a nice to know, but perhaps we can get on with that once this is all sorted, maybe? Come on guys! Why are we letting this is become an opportunity to gain brownie points. This is serious! Of which, truth of the matter is the abducted girls' case (true or not, as there is another debate going on about this) is just a part of the whole picture. People have been dying in their 100s every other day! We need an intervention and fast! It's great that Nigeria is in the spotlight right now, let's make it count. Let's put aside all our shenanigans and focus on the matter at hand.
About that the I saw that lifted my spirit, I watched a video produced by +Kemi Adetiba and it got me excited! I remember the first time I heard @Olamide_YBNL 's rendition of Kwam 1's "Omo Anifowose" I couldn't stop listening to it. I rocked the track on the CD till it was too scratched to play properly, hahaha! The song is a story of the struggle of many. My favorite line in the song is - "Versace, Versace, you're rocking versace, your mummy is hungry, Oloshi" . Apparently the official video was uploaded in March! Where have I been? I just have to say, Kemi and Olamide, you guys made my evening! Besides today is Friday and I haven't shared any #fridaymusic in ages plus this'll be my first Nigerian track on the blog. Yipee!!
I hope you enjoy it like I have. I wish I could translate the whole song for the benefit of my non-yoruba readers, but omo, na long tin be dat. Look for a yoruba speaking friend and ask them. I'll translate a few lines.
Hey, so I created this version of his quote at the end of the video using pikochart! Yaay me.
I love the part where he gives someone a note and the person opens it and see a 5,000 naira note with Olamide's picture on it. I also love the quote at the end. I literally felt the hairs on my skin rise as I watched this video!
Bonus Transcripts
- Oga Ade, E wo bi ta ba de, Omo eru d'oba, Igboro d'emi lade Mr. Ade, look where we are now, the son of a slave is now king, the streets crowned me (I think that's close, hehe)
- Mummy t'aso e ati bata e fun paro, Daddy t'aso e ati bata e fun paro to put food on the table Mummy sold her clothes and shoes for barter, Daddy sold his clothes and shoes for barter
Meanwhile, times have changed o!! I just thought to try to see if I would get the full lyrics online and voila! Thanks to http://www.freenaijalyrics.com. I'll try to do a few more translations and corrections because apparently there are some lines I am almost certain are wrong. Kudos to the person who put these lyrics out though! It must have been quite a bit of work.
More translations are welcome, especially for those deep proverbial lines meeen!! Feel free to help us here.
By the way this gunman pose went completely viral when the album was released last year. While many were busy striking the pose and posting pictures via social media, others were out crying blue murder with claims that its was an Illuminati concept. What's your take?
